Did you know that raising your stop bar tailpiece and wraparound bridge posts out of their bushings causes a massive loss of energy transfer to the body? That's right, string vibration and energy gets lost through the posts threads once the collar is no longer seated tight against the bushing. That's because no matter how well the post threads are cut, the threads becomes loose and wobbly when backed out of the bushing. This causes the post to lean slightly inside of the threaded bushing under string tension, giving you poor contact throughout the threads. Think of it as a loose screw holding one end of your strings to the body!
This is why so many players crank their tailpieces all the way down against the body to try and improve their tone. The problem with that is, you increase your chances of string breakage and premature bridge wear because the string angle off the back of your tune-o-matic is too steep.
