6L6WGC-STR GE-Style black-plate TAD PREMIUM Matched
The Classic 6L6 Sound - Excellent Tone and Maximum Lifetime!
The TAD 6L6WGC-STR has the warm lower mids and silky top end; exactly like the classic GE 6L6 tube version of the 50's and 60's. The complex midrange and sweet highs are outstanding.
This 6L6 is our new preferred choice for classic tone with warm cleans and rich, sweet mids when pushed.
6 Month Limited Warranty against Manufacturing Defects
The perfect choice for vintage tweed and blackface amps such as the 1960 Bassman, Twin, Showman or Super Reverb. The complex midrange and sweet heights are a class of its own. The TAD 6L6WGC-STR is our recommendation for classic tone with warm cleans and rich, sweet mids when pushed. Great for fat jazz or blues tones.
The TAD 6L6WGC-STR is a remake of the small bottle GE6L6GC and has the same warm lower midrange and silky top end as the classic GE versions of the 1950s and 60s. Like the historic RCA 5881, this tube features exclusive blackplate anodes and a side getter. The TAD 6L6GC-STR and the TAD 6L6WGC-STR have our exclusive black-plate desings, gold grid wire, double getter construction, no-noise filaments and 1.2mm thick heavy duty glass. This tube is only 80mm high (without pins) and can replace 5881 or 6L6WGB tubes.
Q: When does a power tube become a Premium Selected power tube?A: All power tubes labeled Premium Selected have passed the following tests:
- Plate Current (PC) and Amplification (TC)
- Low Noise Test
- Microphonic Test
- Sonic Tests
- Shock Tests
- Listening Tests
- Shorts & Leakage Tests
TAD does all TAD Tube quality control processing in-house under strict control of their technical staff. Their techs which are also musicians and guitar players, developed and constructed their custom tube testing systems and aging rigs to run tubes in real amplifier circuits and operation conditions.
For TAD, real tube quality control is way more than just a simple test. Before a TAD Tube gets accepted at all the techs perform extensive sample evaluation testing for consistency, power test, shock resistance test, soak test (long term operation at full power) and of course a musical test in known amplifiers to learn about its sound character in different styles. The main tests are made after a proper pre-aging to stabilize the cathode emission. While most tube test equipment does work at 250V as a maximum TAD built their test rig to operate at voltages of 360 to 600V depending on the tubes being tested. Every TAD Tube is tested by their qualified staff. Each pentode is inspected and tapped while operating and listened for noise floor, hum and odd noise.
Finally measured for a set of parameters and matched by Ia (PC) and Gm (TC). TAD tests batches of 400 to 500 pieces per run to allow tightest tolerances of typically 0.5mA for PC. All TAD Tubes and boxes get labeled with the PC and TC test results and a unique serial number to identify every tube they’ve ever tested. TAD techs permanently verify and monitor selected and matched TAD Tubes by using them every day in their own amp service department and in the TAD Amp Kits they assemble. This is the most complete quality control system they can imagine.
