The Mojotone "Black Magic" humbucker guitar pickup was designed to work well with drop tunings, single note solo playing, and articulate chord progressions with tone being most important. It retains unbelievable clarity and note separation with lots of harmonic overtones. The double black screw side and our special blend of magnets (ceramic and alnico 5) gives this Black Magic humbucker the beautiful tone of alnico without getting mushy on the lows and highs. The ceramic magnet tightens the lows and highs while increasing harmonics and overall clarity of the pickup.

It's the perfect humbucker for jazz fusion, speed picking, drop tunings, and aggressive chord playing. Our 7 string version reads higher ohms than our 6 string version due to the longer coils. Everything else is the exact same spec and sound. Vacuum potted coils.

You won’t be disappointed!!

In love with this pickup!! Aggressive yet warm depending on how you use it!! I’m up and down on ceramic since sometimes these sound to shrill to me, but the blend of ceramic and Alnico is definitely something I’ve been looking for!! Also coil taps very well and has a great single coil sound and chime!! I debated on this pickup for some time and so glad I finally decided to go for it!!

Blown Away

by J. Deacon

To say that I've been blown away by the sound of the bridge pickup is an understatement. I was looking for a set of pups to put into a guitar that I put so much love into and I turned to Mojotone for a different sound. Initially, I was skeptical because I wanted to keep a versatile sound but could dish out dirt when I needed to in a guitar routed for an HSS configuration. The other guitar I have with an HSS setup is loaded with Duncans and showcases my idea of a searing lead tone, but I wanted a less volatile sound, something with more clarity and I thought to simply change makers. The Black Magic compared to the Pegasus in my other guitar isn't nearly as loud, nor is it as reactive to picking nuances, but I count that as its own advantage. The Black Magic bridge does an excellent job of allowing each note in a chord to sound out and sing with each other rather than compete in a mush of noise: major, minor, diminished, suspended 4th, major 7th--each chord I put through it comes through clearly as if my ear was pressed against the body itself as I played. It handles distortion extremely well, not being microphone at all, and being FAR from muddy. Single note runs and sweeps have a clear attack with some punch behind each one. I also have this pickup wired to split coils to match the output of the single coils I have set: Quiet Coil 67's in the middle and neck, and I am not at all disappointed. I was actually swayed by another user's review to get this set, knowing full-well that the outputs between the pickups would be far apart; I decided to wire the Black Magic to split via push/pull pot. In split mode, the bridge compliments the middle and neck 67's by adding in more dirt but still allows for the quacky sound you might expect from two single coils being active. The alnico 5 magnet makes the Black Magic one of the better choices to pair with true single coils with the option to split. I'm not going anywhere without this guitar, she is easily my best axe.
