The Mojotone "Black Magic" humbucker guitar pickup was designed to work well with drop tunings, single note solo playing, and articulate chord progressions with tone being most important. It retains unbelievable clarity and note separation with lots of harmonic overtones. The double black screw side and our special blend of magnets (ceramic and alnico 5) gives this Black Magic humbucker the beautiful tone of alnico without getting mushy on the lows and highs. The ceramic magnet tightens the lows and highs while increasing harmonics and overall clarity of the pickup.

It's the perfect humbucker for jazz fusion, speed picking, drop tunings, and aggressive chord playing. Our 7 string version reads higher ohms than our 6 string version due to the longer coils. Everything else is the exact same spec and sound. Vacuum potted coils.

Supremely versatile

by D.B. Cooper

I am a bit sad that this pickup is still not very popular; perhaps because its not made by a big name brand with huge marketing budgets.

I have the BM Bridge in an HSS Strat with Quiet Coil 67's. While there really is no way to balance such a monster bridge pickup with vintage output single coils, the BM bridge makes me smile everytime. It truly is huge sounding with the most balanced eq curves i have ever heard in a pickup. Its not over compressed yet its tight under hi gain. Single notes have no mid frequency peaks yet every note cuts through.

When i played my first chord in this pickup, it seemed as if the pickup had jumped out and grabbed my whole amp.

It is a tremendous pickup and i actually think that Mojotone should not just market this as a metal pickup; it is supremely versatile, has proper chimey cleans and the low end is tight.

I am now going to order a neck model and convert my strat into a HH guitar and use the QC's on another guitar.

Mojotones customer service and email communication with David should be the benchmark for all company's to follow!

A dynamically responsive pickup

by John D.

When I talked to David I was initially looking for a custom pickup. His suggestion, after I used a few vague and broad descriptive terms, was the Black Magic. I wanted something with a bit of power and attack, a bit of character in the mids, but nothing over the top (no harsh frequencies, etc...). I did have them make one change and that was to use an unoriented A5 magnet instead of the standard A5 (personal preference, I find the UOA5 to be sweeter and easier on my ears). The pickup overall is not nearly as high output as I was expecting and is able to produce beautiful clean tones wired in series (I don't care about parallel or coil tapping/splitting). It is, easily, the most dynamically responsive pickup I have personally tried (that includes multiple Seymours, Dimarzios, Bare Knuckles, other boutique companies). Overdriven tones are guttural and extremely articulate no matter the tuning or amount of gain. The bottom end is quite prominent but not flubby, the mids are certainly full of character and growl and the high end is very clear and smooth (but it will easily scream if you provoke it :). Overall I'm quite floored with this humbucker. It has a very unique voice that is very useful in a variety of situations.
