The Blackface Princeton Reverb has been a staple in guitar tone since its inception in 1964. Similar to the idea behind the Vibrochamp, the Princeton Reverb was essentially all the good parts of its predecessor, the Tweed Princeton, but with a long-spring reverb and tube-driven tremolo circuit added. These amps were ideal not only for use in the studio, but for traveling and gigging with as well. Over the years the Princeton Reverb has worked its way into the gear repertoire of many renowned guitarists such as Ryan Adams, Larry Carlton, Glen Campbell, and Tommy Tedesco.
The Mojotone Princeton Reverb style amp is a 12-15 watt miniature giant that comes stock with a Jensen C10Q 10” 35 watt speaker and (2) 6V6 power tubes. Like the original Blackface era Princetons, the Mojotone amp has the added gain stage after the reverb that pushes the amp to a thicker level of saturation when the amp is pushed. This effect, mixed with the smooth compression of the 6V6 tubes and the classic tone of the Jensen speaker makes for a creamy and soulful tone with a ton of character.
The amp has one channel with two inputs. Input 1 is slightly hotter where input 2 is just a bit more mellow. The advantage here is the ability to plug in a guitar with single coils to input 1 and a guitar with humbuckers to input 2 without having to worry about making manual adjustments to the amp’s volume level when switching guitars. The control panels from left to right reads “volume, treble, bass, reverb, speed, and intensity.” This means you get all the unique tonal qualities of the classic AA1164 circuit as without having to spend hours dialing in the right sound with too many knobs. This amp is designed to give any guitarist a pure, articulate tone that is appropriate for any setting and handles a pedal chain beautifully. Just plug your guitar in and you’ll be jammin’ “Surfin’ USA” in no time.

Our beginner level kits such as the tweed champ and tweed deluxe include a manual. If you purchase a kit from Mojotone and do not receive these documents, you can obtain copies by emailing email@example.com or calling 800-927-6656. The Mojotone staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST unless otherwise closed.
Mojotone kits include the best quality parts that are available at the time of purchase. If a substitution is required, our team will use parts that are of equal quality to ensure the integrity of the kit build remains the same.
Building a fully functional amplifier kit is not an easy task. Before building a kit, one should have the ability to properly solder as well as read and understand a schematic and wiring diagram. While we do our very best to ensure all documentation is current, the included documentation is meant to serve as an overall guide to building the amplifier. Simply following the schematic and wiring diagram does not guarantee you will have a fully functional amplifier. In fact, post build troubleshooting is a common issue across all builds.
Our staff is available to assist with basic troubleshooting needs. There are plenty of online videos available that are helpful with most post build issues. Technical staff is available via email by sending a message to firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also call our sales team to discuss build problems, dial 800-927-6656 and press 1 for sales.
Building a tube amplifier takes time, dedication, resources and most importantly... Skills! The experience of building an amp can come with some frustration, the reward of completing the build is definitely well worth your time. Please review the wiring diagram, schematic and manual (if applicable) prior to making your purchase. Mojotone will not accept any returns on amplifier kits and/or parts that have been assembled, soldered or modified.

This amplifier really sounds incredible
I actually had a lot of trouble building this amp. There’s a lot packed into a small space here but that’s not what gave me trouble. When I wired up the transformer I was following what is pictured in the instructions while the text indicated different. I didn’t read the text until after my third try so I guess that’s my own fault. But after all the stress and swearing I can say it was worth it. This amplifier really sounds incredible and the reverb is sweet too!
There's a lot to love with this kit.
This is my first amp build and there were a few small challenges, as should be expected. I absolutely LOVE this amp and am very happy with everything, especially the clean tone. It's super quiet, too. I've used old Fender amps for over 50 years and even had a collection of them at one time. This amp sounds exactly as it should, big and warm and sweet. And if you lay into the notes it bites with a sharp but crunchy edge. I'm using a 12" D120 and it's a great match.
The supplied reverb is a long-tail at about 4 seconds, the original Fender reverb is about 2.5 seconds by comparison. The supplied reverb sounds really good but it does sound different from a stock Fender tank, it's drier and better for psychedelic sounds (when cranked) and some jazz, i.e. ballads. I'm thinking of getting a replacement tank that sounds more Fender-y for surf, Duane Eddy and country type reverb sounds. Sometimes you just need the shorter tail so fast runs don't start to blur together.
It worked out so well I'm considering building a low-power Twin next. The service and support were excellent, good job MojoTone! The custom cabinet looks really good and the ability to select from the different style coverings, grill cloth, handle etc. is much appreciated and good quality.
