Mojotone’s Tweed Deluxe Style Amp is based on the popular 5E3 circuit from the 1950s and is by far our most popular amplifier. These amps were originally designed as medium power amps that would allow a musician to plug in more than one amplified instrument at a time. At higher volumes, this amp produces saturated tones that were adopted as signature tones for the likes of Billy Gibbons, Neil Young, Don Felder, and Larry Carlton.

Utilizing two 6V6 power tubes, one 12AY7 preamp tube, and one 12AX7 preamp tube, the circuit is simple enough to maintain a rich harmonic composition but powerful enough for guitarists to use in recording studios, rehearsals and smaller venues — and the amp is just a microphone away from being ready for bigger stages. Pair it up with our Anthem 12" speaker to complement the 5E3 style circuit, as it enhances the sound of the amp without compromising its historic tonal accuracy.

Our Tweed Deluxe style amp has two normal channel inputs and two bright channel inputs. The normal and bright channels each have their own volume control, and the two channels can even be 'jumpered' together and blended for a new range of tonal options. The global tone control also helps shape the overall timbre of the amp, giving the player total control over their sound without having to spend hours dialing in EQs.

We have a multi-tap output transformer available for this kit which features 4, 8, and 16 Ohm speaker output secondary taps. Find it here:Tweed Deluxe® Multi-Tap Output TransformerThis transformer is sold separately.

When purchasing a kit from Mojotone, you will receive the following documentation.

1. Schematic

2. Wiring Diagram / Layout

Our beginner level kits such as the tweed champ and tweed deluxe include a manual. If you purchase a kit from Mojotone and do not receive these documents, you can obtain copies by emailing tech@mojotone.com or calling 800-927-6656. The Mojotone staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST unless otherwise closed.

Mojotone kits include the best quality parts that are available at the time of purchase. If a substitution is required, our team will use parts that are of equal quality to ensure the integrity of the kit build remains the same.

Building a fully functional amplifier kit is not an easy task. Before building a kit, one should have the ability to properly solder as well as read and understand a schematic and wiring diagram. While we do our very best to ensure all documentation is current, the included documentation is meant to serve as an overall guide to building the amplifier. Simply following the schematic and wiring diagram does not guarantee you will have a fully functional amplifier. In fact, post build troubleshooting is a common issue across all builds.

Our staff is available to assist with basic troubleshooting needs. There are plenty of online videos available that are helpful with most post build issues. Technical staff is available via email by sending a message to tech@mojotone.com. You may also call our sales team to discuss build problems, dial 800-927-6656 and press 1 for sales.

Building a tube amplifier takes time, dedication, resources and most importantly... Skills! The experience of building an amp can come with some frustration, the reward of completing the build is definitely well worth your time. Please review the wiring diagram, schematic and manual (if applicable) prior to making your purchase. Mojotone will not accept any returns on amplifier kits and/or parts that have been assembled, soldered or modified.

This amp kit also comes with the following documents. Please feel free to view and/or download them:

Tweed Deluxe Schematic
Tweed Deluxe Wiring Diagram

We no longer send an instruction manual with the kit, but you can view an older version of it here:

THIS WAS FENDERS BEST AMP EVER MADE !!!!!

by RONNIE -

IF you have soldering skills and a little electrical knowledge then this amp is easy. I bought a raised turrent board and did not use Mojo's so I knew I would have no cold solder joint. Remember if you fresh solder joint does not look shinney. Then resolder it. I have medical Hemostat that I clamped on all capacitors to stop exessive heat. Another tip is to label all connections on the layout sheet and then use the backboar sheet and label the numbers there also. One thing Mojo does not tell you is to keep the wires as short as possible. And lay them flat against the chassis. It took me 2 weeks to put mine together. But I did 1 hour work aday and come back the next day to recheck with fresh odds. I did have a little noise but I rerouted a power wire (b+ voltage wire) and it went away even when amp is turned wide open. Remember this is also the quitest amp Mr. Fender designed. I am now wiring mods to it. To sweeten it up even more.

A Solid Performer

by Justin -

Really pleased with the result. The amp sounds great and has surprisingly low noise for such an old design. Mojotone sourced top notch parts and that really makes a difference. Took about a week to build mine, with no significant issues. It worked correctly the first time!

I highly recommend watching Andy's videos (posted to the Mojotone channel in 2020) which provide a lot more details on how to build. These add a lot to the written instructions.
