Building this kit will yield a replica of the Fender 6G6-B Bassman, which was the production model from 1962-64. This was an interesting era for the evolution of the Bassman because it was a transitional time between the well-known tweed 4x10, and the later black-face era AA165 and AB165 models that Fender eventually settled on for the remainder of the 1960's.

Starting in 1960-61, Fender released the 6G6, which utilized a GZ34 tube rectifier along with what seems to be an experimental preamp which catered more to bass players. Within the same year, a 6G6-A variant was released, which dropped the GZ34 for a solid-state rectifier circuit, along with a first approximation of a new bias circuit. The following year, we see the final attempt of the blond era- the 6G6-B. The changes made with this model were a final tweak to the Bass channel's treble circuit and a bias circuit that looks more at home in the black-face era.

Notable players of the Blonde Bassman include Brian Setzer, who apparently put a Roland Space Echo in front of it, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which used these amps right up until Petty's death in 2017. That's right, guitar players seemed to have a lot of fun with the “Normal” channel. There's a clarity and matter-of-factness to the picking response that you will not find in other Bassman models.

Nowadays, finding an original in the wild is rare and expensive. If this transitional Fender sound is what you're after, and you don't have the time and money to seek out an unmolested unit in serviceable condition, consider building our kit. It comes with everything needed to build a high-quality stage-ready amplifier that will last a life-time.

Our beginner level kits such as the tweed champ and tweed deluxe include a manual. If you purchase a kit from Mojotone and do not receive these documents, you can obtain copies by emailing [email protected] or calling 800-927-6656. The Mojotone staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST unless otherwise closed.

Mojotone kits include the best quality parts that are available at the time of purchase. If a substitution is required, our team will use parts that are of equal quality to ensure the integrity of the kit build remains the same.

Building a fully functional amplifier kit is not an easy task. Before building a kit, one should have the ability to properly solder as well as read and understand a schematic and wiring diagram. While we do our very best to ensure all documentation is current, the included documentation is meant to serve as an overall guide to building the amplifier. Simply following the schematic and wiring diagram does not guarantee you will have a fully functional amplifier. In fact, post build troubleshooting is a common issue across all builds.

Our staff is available to assist with basic troubleshooting needs. There are plenty of online videos available that are helpful with most post build issues. Technical staff is available via email by sending a message to [email protected]. You may also call our sales team to discuss build problems, dial 800-927-6656 and press 1 for sales.

Building a tube amplifier takes time, dedication, resources and most importantly... Skills! The experience of building an amp can come with some frustration, the reward of completing the build is definitely well worth your time. Please review the wiring diagram, schematic and manual (if applicable) prior to making your purchase. Mojotone will not accept any returns on amplifier kits and/or parts that have been assembled, soldered or modified.

This amp kit also comes with the following documents. Please feel free to view and/or download them:
