In 2014, Johnny Winter teamed up with Mojotone to recreate his iconic sound with his signature Firebird pickup.
Based on his original Firebird pickups, these utilize the same exact materials and specs using aged cast Alnico magnets, vintage spec 42 gauge wire, and a steel reflector plate. We carefully balanced the neck and bridge pickups for more even output and response between all positions.
We took the original vintage Firebird specs a step further with our own winding recipe to bring out a much broader frequency response and dynamic range with more output and sustain.
Johnny was proud of these beautiful sounding pickups and wanted to share his legendary tone with the world. Mojotone is honored to offer his long-desired signature pickups for you to love as well.

The Firebirds' Magnum Opus

I've tried most if not all iterations of Firebird Pickups. There are different flavors but the iconic '63 is as good as you can get out there... these are better. I don't know how they do it, almost feels like they're cheating, you get all the highs of the firebird and none of the compression.
I got my first set that came with a guitar and I bought another set more recently.
The Firebird Pickup is my favorite of all time but these are head and Shoulders above other brands.

These things sound and feel fantastic. The neck pickup has a warm round sound with some punch. The break-up is sweet with some sting!
