Johnny Winter Firebird Pickup
In 2014, Johnny Winter teamed up with Mojotone to recreate his iconic sound with his signature Firebird pickup.
Based on his original Firebird pickups, these utilize the same exact materials and specs using aged cast Alnico magnets, vintage spec 42 gauge wire, and a steel reflector plate. We carefully balanced the neck and bridge pickups for more even output and response between all positions.
We took the original vintage Firebird specs a step further with our own winding recipe to bring out a much broader frequency response and dynamic range with more output and sustain.
Johnny was proud of these beautiful sounding pickups and wanted to share his legendary tone with the world. Mojotone is honored to release his long desired signature pickups.

Incredible Firebird Pickups!

The stock Epi pickups in my Epi Firebird were too dark and lacked articulation. The Klein Firebird pickups I tried next were an improvement, but the neck pickup overpowered the bridge (regardless of height adjustment compensation), the bridge was too thin, and the lack of wax potting meant they howled and squealed with any decent overdrive at gigging volume. But these Mojotone JW signature pickups are AWESOME! I love that the bridge is wound a bit hotter than the neck, to bring much better balance to the set while staying "vintage spec". And since they're potted, there's no squealing happening at all. My Firebird has never sounded so good. Lots of clarity all around, with plenty of gritty muscle and growl from the bridge with overdrive. Love them. Highly recommend!
Good but overpriced

(neck pickup only) sweet and well articulated pickup. Falls appart a little under heavy distortion (and by that I mean a plexi) if you don't lower the bass down on the amp. Pretty good pickup but maybe slightly overpriced
