Part two of our two-part Mojotone Pedal Kits series is here! In this series, we are introducing you to the features and functions of our rat (RT-OD) and fuzz (BM-FZ) pedal kits.

Our RT-OD effects pedal kit is capable of mean sounds and we love it for how the distortion is structured. The effects pedal really delivers a raw and unique sound for your tone needs. Our BM-FZ pedal kit provides a range of fuzz from light through wall-of-fuzz. The toggle switch on the BM-FZ allows guitarists to control the midrange presence from original scooped-out tone to a flat response with a lot of midrange.

And so here are the last two guitar pedal kits that our customers have been asking us for more information about. We have the RT-OD that covers sounds from crunchy distortion to lightly driven heavy mids territory and the BM-FZ that takes you to a full on wall of fuzz sound.

You can find the first part of this article and read the Feature Overview of our TS-OD and BB-OD Pedal Kit on our blog. And to hear how they sound, we are releasing a play through of each pedal on our YouTube Guitar Pedal Kits Playlist.

Easy First DIY Guitar Effects Pedal Kits

All four of our DIY pedal kits are made for first time builders. Our pedal kits come preloaded with main components so that the soldering required is minimal. You also won’t have to worry about reading the polarity of capacitors, color codes for resistors, or which direction semiconductors are installed.

Each of these DIY pedal kits are designed for you to put together the basics - and have fun with tone through the internal dip switches for additional tone alterations on the RT-OD, TS-OD, and BB-OD pedals.

RT-OD Pedal Kit Features and Functions

Toggle Switch Functions

For the RT-OD, the toggle switch changes the clipping diodes in the pedal from hard clipping silicon diodes (like the original) to LEDs for a more open "turbo" type distortion. The center position with no clipping diodes gives you a dB boost. Just like the other overdrive effects pedal kits, there is an internal dip switch for another option within the circuit.

Internal DIP Switch

The small DIP switch on the board changes how the circuit clips. Engaging the DIP switch to the on position adds three diodes in the feedback loop of the circuit giving you soft clipping very similar to our TS-OD. You can leave the switch on and combine it with the toggle switch for extra overdrive and distortion options.

BM-FZ Pedal Kit Features and Functions

The BM-FZ kit is a fuzz effects pedal kit that is based on a certain green fuzz box used by players like Billy Corgan, Cliff Burton, J Mascis and more. A very raw sounding fuzz from light fuzz/distortion to a wall of fuzz. Great pedal for bass guitar, doom metal or music where you need a wall of distortion.

Toggle Switch Functions

The original circuit had a big dip in the midrange where you might disappear in the mix a little. For the BM-FZ, the toggle switch gives you control over the midrange presence of the pedal. In the up position, this gives you that scooped out midrange of the original circuit. Switching to the down position, dips out the midrange frequencies about half as much as the up position. In the center position, the frequency response of the pedal is flat with plenty of midrange presence to sit or cut through the mix. The Tone control is very interactive with any of the toggle positions.

Mojotone Effects Pedal Kits

We designed these DIY kits to be as easy as possible to build while maintaining a level of quality that is sure to make an impact on guitarists’ tone across the landscape. They are designed for first time builders, however, builders of all skill levels will appreciate the experience of putting one together.

Whether you’re building your first effects pedal or tweaking a tone within a sound that rat or fuzz delivers, this might be just for you. We hope our descriptions of the internal and external switch positions and overviews of our RT-OD and BM-FZ pedal kits were helpful. Let us know if you have questions, we love to talk to our customers!

Stay tuned as we continue to release the play through of each of our pedal kits on YouTube. We have already released three of them, which you can find on our Guitar Pedal Kits Featured Section.
